Engineered around people: Building a culture of care and curiosity

Let’s be honest, in the MedTech industry it is easy to forget why we do what we do. Life gets in the way; chaos leaving the house, traffic on route to the office, endless emails, meetings, in many companies the grind of the corporate process. At HiArc, we have always tried to keep the reason WHY we do what we do present for our 200 or so team members. That’s the advantage we have over huge corporate contract manufacturers. We believe we engineer and build instruments that impact patient outcomes. We know we are not on the front line of medicine. In fact, we’re several steps removed. But people matter to us. The physicians, scientists, technicians and end patients matter.

Creating ingenious machines that enable an end patient to get diagnosed faster and receive the right treatment, matters to us. Knowing that our designs, the prototypes, the parts on an assembly line, all add up to an instrument in market helping someone be well.

We care more.

When we re-engineered our company earlier this year, we decided to codify some of the sayings and mantras people at HiArc use every day. One of the most important is simple: “We care more.” This value is utterly integral to how we work. Whether it means going that extra mile for clients in a pinch or making sure every line of code, every precision motion, and every calibration we make is flawless — it all comes back to the same truth.

Ultimately, it’s about people: the patient waiting for a faster diagnosis, the clinician relying on accurate data, the scientist searching for answers that could change a life. That’s what drives us. And thanks to our size and culture, we’re able to care more and go that extra mile, in ways bigger firms simply can’t.

Being relentless is caring.

HiArc was built on a belief that engineering is an act of caring. Our people bring an uncommon level of dedication to their work; not because a contract demands it but because the outcome matters. When a design doesn’t feel quite right, our teams stay an extra hour to make it better.

When a test shows something unexpected, curiosity kicks in, not frustration. That’s because everyone here understands the real impact: every adjustment, every insight, every improvement can bring better outcomes for patients around the world. We call that being “engineered around people”, not just around products.

Being curious is caring.

Our industry is driven by faster timelines and ever-tightening budgets. Whether we’re partnering with a global Life Science company on a new testing platform or helping a MedTech startup scale from prototype to production, the themes of time, money, and precision are constant.
But we’re not just in the business of cranking out instruments by the numbers. In this industry, the stakes are human. Getting it right means someone gets the treatment they need sooner. Getting it wrong isn’t an option.

So we encourage our teams to ask the questions others might miss:
“How could we make this easier for the clinician?”
“How can this design reduce waiting times?”

Fostering a culture of curiosity - in the service of people — just makes good business sense.

Remembering the why.

Keeping our clients (and their users) central to how we do engineering and production is critical for us. Our smaller size means we stay close to clients and to each other. Collaboration isn’t a corporate slogan here; it’s a daily rhythm. We see the faces behind every challenge, the people our work will touch.

We’re big enough to take on complex challenges, but small enough to care about every detail. That’s what puts a spring in our step every  morning: knowing that what we make here has the power to help someone, somewhere, live a better life. And that helps us remember why we do what we do, why we come to work. No matter what the day might throw at us.

That’s HiArc: engineered around people
